About the Indian Coal Markets Conference
Having crossed the 1 billion ton production milestone, India’s coal sector now faces an unexpected plateau in demand, forcing both established and emerging producers to reassess their short- and long-term growth strategies. At this juncture, the industry must decide whether to pursue unchecked expansion or recalibrate for balanced coexistence with renewable energy. As miners deliberate their options, deep structural changes – most notably the shift from predictable FSA-linked sales to the uncertainties of a market-based regime under the emerging Coal Exchange – are pushing companies to rethink their operating model and risk outlook. How will prices get discovered at these exchanges? What domestic and external factors would weigh in? How do we create room for the growth of both legacy and new age miners? And how would the seaborne market be factored in?
The 19th Indian Coal Markets Conference (ICMC) would try to find answers to some or all of these most pertinent questions and might give rise to new insights into the sector which are not even being discussed now.
