About the Indian Coal Markets Conference

While India is closing in on its 1 billion tons of production landmark, the domestic coal industry is undergoing a sea change. Rapid growth in output from captive and commercial mines, application of cutting-edge technologies, efficient logistics network, setting up of a (proposed) coal exchange and deregulation of pricing are throwing the sector open, gradually and consistently! These transformative moves will not only lead to competitive pricing, but also better allocation of resources, thus unlocking India’s vast coal reserves and creating new opportunities for economic growth and employment.

To capture the essence of these exciting times, mjunction services limited is going to organise the 18th Indian Coal Markets Conference at Taj Bengal in Kolkata on March 3-4, 2025. The theme of this year's conference has been chosen as Future of coal: Towards a free market.

Some key topics to be discussed in the conference::

  • Coal exchange or private deals? Marketing strategy in a free market.
  • How does CIL plan to retain its leadership in the competitive era?
  • Staying well-funded: How private miners are competitively funding capex?
  • Pricing in a free market: How to optimise realisations in a buyers’ market?
  • Will exchange-based trading destabilize the auctions market?
  • What is the traders’ take on the proposed coal exchange?
  • Can Railways cope with coal exchange’s logistics requirements?
  • Decarbonization in cement: what will be the impact on coal demand?
  • Can India become a price-setter in coking and thermal coal import deals?
  • Seaborne thermal coal prices: What does 2025 hold in store?
  • Seaborne met coal market: A mid-term outlook on demand and prices.
  • Ocean freight rates: A stable year ahead?
  • Dwindling coal exports: How can SA address its rail bottlenecks?
  • The new coal trade route: Implications for Russian coal in Indian market?
